Nick Carter of Lexington was awarded the Distinguished Service Award at a special ceremony during the 97th Kentucky FFA State Convention in Lexington. The Distinguished Service Award is presented to adults who have rendered a lifetime of service to the Kentucky FFA Association and is the highest honor the Association can bestow upon an adult.
Carter was an FFA member at Hustonville High School in Lincoln County and served as the State FFA Sentinel in 1964-65. He earned a degree in agriculture from the University of Kentucky before pursuing a successful career in the energy industry. Following retirement, Carter moved back to Lexington and reconnected with the Kentucky FFA Foundation. Over the past several years, he has become a leading supporter of FFA members at all levels.
Carter has volunteered countless hours to coach students and judge contests. He has established an endowment to support FFA members in Lincoln County and has been a leading proponent of Forever Blue Endowments for FFA chapters across the state. He has served as a member of the Kentucky FFA Foundation Board of Trustees and served as chair of the Board of Trustees from 2023-2025. Carter is currently serving as chair of the Kentucky FFA Centennial Committee.
Kentucky FFA Foundation Executive Director Sheldon McKinney said, “Nick epitomizes what distinguished service to FFA looks like. He freely gives his time, talent, and treasure and has made a lasting difference that will stand for generations in Kentucky FFA. Nick has given generously of his time and talent by mentoring students and teachers, guiding the Kentucky FFA Foundation Board with his financial acumen, and supporting the organization through his generosity. Nick’s gifts will open doors of opportunity for FFA members for decades to come. He is a gift to Kentucky FFA, and it is an honor to recognize him for his service and friendship.”
