Maker’s Mark Donates Exclusive Experience to Benefit Kentucky FFA Foundation and Future Kentucky Ag Leaders
Maker’s Mark underscored its deep ties to Kentucky agriculture and ongoing commitment to investing in the future with its one-of-a-kind donation during the Kentucky FFA Foundation’s 8th annual Blue & Gold Gala.
“Maker’s Mark was proud to partner with the FFA to raise money for the next generation of farmers in Kentucky,” said Elle Andress, Senior Manager of Higher Partnerships at Maker’s Mark. “Bourbon is an agricultural product, and we love our local growers, which is why we source 86% of our ingredients to make bourbon from farmers within a 70-mile radius of the distillery. By supporting non-profits like the FFA, Maker’s Mark hopes to provide opportunities and inspire the next generation of farmers for many years to come.”
The distillery offered its Private Select Barrel Experience as an item for the Gala’s live auction. It’s an exclusive opportunity to handcraft a personalized barrel of Maker’s Mark bourbon, and includes a tasting and blending experience for eight guests at the National Historic Landmark Maker’s Mark Distillery on Star Hill Farm. After the bourbon has matured, participants receive the entire run in specially labeled bottles.
The offering sparked a good-natured bidding war, and was initially won by Peterson Farms, David Saffer Law Group, and Pat Christie. Recognizing the enthusiasm and mission-driven generosity in the room, Maker’s Mark graciously offered a second barrel experience on the spot. This second opportunity was secured by Darrell and Jennifer Billings of Tanner Chrysler, along with Kevin and Gina Buchanan of the Buchanan Estate.
Both groups’ tasting experience was led by Austin “Woody” Hazelwood, former Kentucky FFA State President and current Sensory & Innovation Specialist at Maker’s Mark. This connection underscores the full-circle nature of the experience: a former state FFA officer now playing a pivotal role at a legendary Kentucky distillery, leading donors in crafting bourbon made with grain grown by local farmers.
The Kentucky FFA Foundation is grateful to Maker’s Mark, the generous auction winners, and all attendees who made the Blue & Gold Gala a night of outstanding support for Kentucky FFA members.
