89th State FFA Convention

The 89th Annual Kentucky FFA State Convention was held June 5-7 in Lexington.  An all-time record 2839 FFA members, advisors, and guest attended the Convention which is the organization’s largest annual event.  The Convention included state contest finals in several Career and Development Events, the State Agriscience Fair, and the annual Middle School FFA Convention.  Nationally known speaker Josh Isenhardt and National FFA Eastern Region Vice President Gracie Furnish served as keynote speakers for the event.  Other speakers included USDA Under-Secretary Ted McKinney, Commissioner of Agriculture Ryan Quarles, and Director of the Governor’s Office of Agriculture Policy Warren Beeler.  Other Convention activities included a Career Expo, concert, Day of Service, delegate business session, meal packing event, and leadership workshops.  

The Convention culminated with the presentation of 454 State Degrees, the naming of the State Stars, and the naming of the 2018-2019 State Officer team during the closing session on Thursday, June 7.  The Star Awards are the highest presented by the organization and winners include:

  • Star Farmer -  Lauren Schmitt- Livingston Central
  • Star in Agribusiness - Hannah York- Caldwell County
  • Star in Placement - Justin Arnett- Montgomery County
