Supervised Agriculture Experience Programs

“I believe in my own ability to work efficiently and think clearly,
with such knowledge and skill as I can secure.”

These words, found in the third paragraph of the FFA creed, describe FFA members who display the outstanding efforts of hard work and years of learning through Supervised Agriculture Experience programs. SAE programs not only offer students a hands-on approach to learning, but also provide an outlet for energy and creative ideas. These programs lead to new opportunities in competitions, scholarships, degree advancement, internships, and career readiness. Though FFA members across America collectively earn more than $4 Billion through SAE programs annually, many members are quick to say their most important earnings are responsibility and communication skills. Begin creating an SAE in one of the following areas:

  • Entrepreneurship: Own and operate an agricultural business ranging from custom hay baling to soy candle production.
  • Placement: Obtain a job or internship at a farm, school lab, or ag-based business such as a nursery or veterinarian’s office.
  • Research: Plan and conduct a science experiment on an ag-related topic such as hydroponics efficiency or the effectiveness of leadership training.
  • Exploratory: Select a topic you wish to learn more about and become knowledgeable about it. For example, create a report or documentary on the work of an Ag economist.
