On Tuesday November 29th, various chapters from across Kentucky fought the rain, sleet, and even snow to come together at the WKU Expo Center for the Ag. Sales, Small Engines, Welding and Junior Chapter Meeting Contests. Throughout the day, it was my privilege to meet many members from around the central Kentucky area. Not only did I have the opportunity observe many FFA members showcasing their gains from hard work and diligence exerted over the past several weeks;  I sat in awe of numerous freshmen members who although only having been involved in their agriculture classes for four short months, performed the task of running a meeting properly and with impressive poise. I especially enjoyed the chance to watch several Ag Sales competitors pour their hearts out to sell their assigned “sprayer”. Most impressive was each member performed at his or hers best in their respective contest, not merely for personal gain, but with effort to improve their overall teams score.

At these moments, I realize that we as FFA members can learn and do anything. We as FFA members have the resources and the ability to accomplish anything we set our minds to. We are given the chance to learn something new each day, no matter if it is in the classroom, in the field or from a friend. We have the opportunity to grow in every aspect as we go through life, as a FFA member, student or a person.  We must simply choose to grow. Combining opportunity with willingness allows us a great chance for success, just as competitors in these contests have demonstrated.

As FFA members we are beyond blessed! I know I’ve always been pretty partial to the FFA, mainly because of the diversity in contests, events and opportunities offered to every member. After spending a little bit of my time at the WKU Contest day I am reminded that we as FFA members have endless possibilities, not only to learn and serve our organization but to grow as individuals. We all have room to grow as well. All it took for me to grow was to stop, sit back and watch our FFA members at work. Take a moment to remind yourself of the impact this organization has had on your life. Challenge yourself to continue allowing that impact, to seek greater opportunity and to use every available resource to ensure your personal success. The most important question is WHEN will you decide to make that commitment and grow?
