As reported earlier, a massive storm began to move across the state of Kentucky on January 2nd and has yet to be fully removed. In fact, KY FFA News reports that the repercussions of this phenomenal weather pattern will never completely disappear. This event officially titled “Storm the State: 2012” has certainly left a mark on the Bluegrass state.

With the mission of promoting KY FFA goals and encouraging chapters to take action, the KY FFA State Officer Team travelled across the state giving workshops and helping chapters plan events that corresponded to one of the three state goals:

1)      Embody “Living to Serve” – Increase Community Service

2)      “Tell Your Story” – Promote Ag Literacy

3)      Connect to Chapter Members

Chapters everywhere have chosen one of the topics, planned an event and used it to make a difference in the future. Several chapters, including Boyd County, are going to be hosting a sponsorship dinner in honor of chapter sponsors, firefighters and other community leaders. East Carter FFA will soon be constructing a “wheelchair garden” at a local nursing home where residents in wheelchairs will be able to access a garden filled with flowers and vegetables. These chapters are definitely embracing the rewarding opportunity of community service.

Other chapters, like Crittenden County are hoping to help educate the community, especially the youth, about agriculture by hosting an “AgVenture Day.” Even more chapters, like Casey ATC, will be connecting with chapter members by hosting a series of leadership workshops during FFA week. Regardless of what type of event, the KY FFA is more than excited to see these chapters’ future success.

In closing, even though the wind, rain and snow are slowly leaving the Bluegrass, the impact that was made on over 75 FFA chapters will forever remain.
