Capitol Support

As people, we often overlook the opportunities and support accessible to us. For instance, a very small proportion of Kentuckians ever take advantage of the fact that we live at the horse capitol of the world; many Americans fail to truly take advantage of the innumerable freedoms and opportunities that our country offers. As FFA members, we are part of the largest youth organization in the United States and receive some of the greatest support available; consequently, it is our job to recognize and appreciate the individuals and groups that provide such opportunities. The KY FFA Association is especially blessed to have the support of numerous legislatures and government officials in Frankfort.
On February 6th, the KY FFA State Officers among other Career and Technical Organization State Officers, made the trek to Frankfort for an event known as SOLD where students were given the chance to meet with legislators and thank them for their continuous support of career and technical education. This two day conference not only allowed us to witness our state government at its best, but also allowed us to learn about the legislative system and it’s inner workings. Although the tour of the capitol was beautiful and sitting in on committee debates was fascinating, nothing compared to being able to converse with political officials who were once FFA state officers and members. Such individuals are living examples of FFA members who seized the opportunities around them and used it to positively change the state of Kentucky.
Not only have we been able to show our appreciation for the officials who continue to support our association, but we were able to give our own support to all of the KY National FFA Winners at a beautiful reception held at the Governor’s Mansion on February 15th. It was here that the Commissioner of Agriculture, the Lieutenant Governor and other state officials continued to show even more support by honoring our association and its winners. In addition to government officials, agricultural advisors, parents and state staff also showed their support by attending the amazing reception that was hosted by Ann Evans, the Governor’s Mansion Coordinator.
As seen by these two very special events, KY FFA is not only very lucky but also well-represented at our state’s capitol. Whether it is a simple thank-you to a supporter or a reception at a mansion, there is never an insignificant gesture of gratitude. KY FFA, when will you search and find opportunities around you? When will you take the initiative to thank your supporters that make such chances available?
What about now?!
